As children, Cheryl and Jason Blossom were inseparable. Wherever Jason went, Cheryl went, too- it was non negotiable. When they were little, and still identical, their parents would dress them in matching outfits, or at least, coordinating outfits. Cheryl and Jason would often share the same bed as children, and sometimes even as they got older. If one had a nightmare, or was feeling bad, they’d climb into the other’s bed, and they would hold them close and reassure them.

And as small children, they would talk to each other about every small mundane thing. They’d talk about if they wanted to be astronauts, or firefighters (”It’ll match our hair,” Jason would laugh). They would go everywhere together, whether it was ice skating or playing at the park or climbing trees.

But as they grew older, the twins slowly separated from each other. They made their own friends, and had different interests. But Cheryl worried that she was losing her brother, and she worried that they wouldn’t be close anymore. She would often intrude on her brother’s activities, and at first, Jason was okay with it. He loved his twin sister more than the world itself, and he wanted her to be happy.

But then he started going out with Polly Cooper.

That’s when their relationship really started to change. Jason was colder to Cheryl, more distant, since he really just wanted to be with his girlfriend. Cheryl fretted that she was losing her brother to a Cooper, and she hated it- so, by extension, she hated Betty and Polly as well. So Cheryl plotted a way to break up Jason and Polly, and decided to take Jason out to the river. She put on her white dress with the white gloves, which looked amazing on her, she knew. Cheryl insisted that Jason wear white as well, so they could match each other.

They held hands as they rowed through the lake in pleasant silence. She loved the feeling of his hand in hers, because it just felt right. She belonged here, with Jason.

“Cheryl, I have to tell you something.” Jason said, quite out of the blue.

“You can tell me anything, you know that.” Cheryl responded immediately, leaning forward.

“I’m going to run away with Polly.”

“WHAT?!” Cheryl gasped, horrified. “You’re going to leave me?!”

“No, I’m going to come back for you, Cher-bear. I would never leave you behind.” Jason told her instantly.

“You just see me as a parasite!” Cheryl argued, feeling tears in her eyes.

“Cheryl, that’s not true. I love you more than anything in the whole world.” Jason said, pulling Cheryl in for a hug. “Polly and I just need to get away from our parents for a few days. Then we’ll come back, I promise.” Cheryl sniffed, clinging to Jason’s shirt.

“You promise?” Cheryl sniffed.

“I pro-” Jason’s words were cut off by a violent shake to the boat. The twins looked around, and found themselves surrounded by rocks and moving way too quickly.

“Where are we?” Cheryl gasped.

“I don’t know, but I’m sure we’ll be okay-” Jason said, right before another violent shake rocked the boat. This shake was so violent, it threw Cheryl straight out of the boat.

“JASON!” Cheryl cried out in terror.

“I’m coming, Cher!” Jason yelled, jumping out of the boat to get to his sister. Than a particularly wild current claimed Jason and smacked his head against a rock, rendering him unconscious. Cheryl was about to cry out again, when she found herself struggling under the tide, struggling to breathe, before the world went dark. Her last thoughts were of Jason, and hoping that her twin, her other half, would be okay.
I got a prompt on tumblr for Cheryl from Riverdale with the song Evelyn Evelyn by Evelyn Evelyn. Here's the post if you want to reblog it!
